ITHAKA´S HISTORY

Ever since being brought to life by Homer, Ithaka has been a part of the allegory for the journey that life is. That is the impression left to us by the poet C.P. Kavafis (Alexandria 4/17/1863- 4/19/1933) in his unique description of life as interpreted through the poem Ithaka. In our Mundaka Basque Country Store we have taken the first lines of that poem and have printed it in out across the walls of the Ithaka Book Corner in Greek, German and English, as well as in all of the languages of the Pyrenees: Basque, Catalan, Aragonese and Spanish (we hope to soon have a version in Occitan as well).

In order to convey our adventurous spirit at Ithaka Books Corner, we’ve put up the portrait of two great journeymen: Ernest Hemingway and Juan Duñabeitia, created from the elegant hand of J. M. Ucelay.

Ithaka Book Corner is both our homage and invitation to travel. In the section called Ithaka News we will be releasing news, book-talk, music recommendations and we will also let you know about all events that have to do with the “Kafavis spirit” at Ithaka. Safe travels!
